At New Berlin Road Church, we believe in the power of God's love, the divinity of Jesus Christ, and the guidance of the Holy Spirit. We believe that through faith and prayer, we can overcome any obstacle and live a life of purpose and meaning. Our Women's Ministry exists to inspire, equip, support, and disciple women to live in God's purpose. We want to create opportunities and resources for women to discover their gifts and be empowered to fulfill His purpose.

Lorie has spent her entire adult life worshiping from the stage, so leading others from her own seasons of pain and triumph through song has always been her way to connect others to Jesus. Lorie compares her life a lot to the woman and her Alabaster Box who gave raw and authentic worship to Jesus. This woman pressed beyond her shame and her desperation to encounter Jesus.

I’m Amber Smith. I’m a Christ follower, wife, and mama. My husband Granger and I have been married since 2010 and we live on a little farm with lots of animals in central Texas with our kiddos, London, Lincoln, and Maverick. Our lives were forever changed when our youngest son River went to be with Jesus in June of 2019. I started Arise with Amber to share our journey through grief and how Jesus saved our lives. My passion since our loss has been to bring good from our pain, to find meaning and purpose instead of reason, and to share the hope we have in Jesus to a lost, hurting, and broken world. We started the River Kelly Fund in honor of our son and since its inception, we have given back over half a million dollars to other non-profit organizations and those in need. I’m here to tell you, friend, that grief and joy can co-exist. I wouldn’t have written this story for my life, but I am so grateful we serve a God who is writing a better story than I ever could. My story is not over and neither is yours. I can’t wait to see what the next chapter holds.
Our first battle with loss was when we lost Granger’s dad in 2014. A heart attack took him home unexpectedly. Chris was such a godly, genuine, kind, funny, loving, wise man. He always gave me the biggest hugs with his whole body. He had the best laugh. He first spoke scripture to me, with tears in his eyes, one day in 2011 and it’s something I’ll never forget.
2 Corinthians 12:9 - But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is perfected in weakness.”
The years that followed, Granger and I grew closer to Christ. We started reading devotionals and I began to take the kids to church. I was attending Christian women’s conferences and bible studies. I was beginning to feel God so closely in my life and I loved it. We were by worldly standards, "happy". We moved into our “dream home” on a little piece of land. Granger’s career was booming. Kids were doing wonderful. Life was good. And then it wasn’t.

Lorie grew up in central Ohio, and married right out of high school to the cute boy she grew up with at church.
She and Rick moved with their boys Andrew and Noah to Jacksonville, FL in 2006 and were later blessed with two more children, Isaac and Joy. After facing many medical hardships with their baby girl in 2016, they agreed it was time to move back to Ohio to be close to family. They left Jacksonville with no future job, no home, and no money, but fully trusted Jesus would provide.
Although they have walked through dark times such as a heartbreaking diagnosis of possible death over their baby girl, their own marriage being in a fragile place, a family crisis, and other mountains and valleys, they found strength in Jesus and those around them.
Lorie lives in Lancaster, Ohio and currently attends Collision Church in the small town of Reynoldsburg with her parents and extended family. Andrew and Noah are now married to Shalom and Kayla and are starting families of their own close by. Lorie spends her busy days homeschooling her two youngest children. When she’s not elbow-deep in arts and crafts and math equations, she dreams of relaxing on the beach and soaking up the sunshine and salty air. Once reality sets in and she remembers she is in Ohio, she enjoys sitting on her porch swing sipping sweet tea and reading.
